Abstract

This research aims to find out how to develop komaca media (reading proficient box) to train elementary school students' initial reading skills, and to find out the suitability of the media developed, to find out students' responses to komaca media. This research was conducted at SDN I Lebak Parahiang school with 17 class I students as research subjects. This type of research uses the R&D method which refers to the steps of the 4-D development model according to Thiagarajan, et al (in Trianto, 2012: 232) consisting of four development stages, namely definition, development and dissemination. The instruments that researchers use are questionnaires for product validation by a team of experts (media, language, materials) and student response questionnaire sheets. Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded that the komaca media (reading proficient box) for training the initial reading skills of grade I elementary school students that was developed is included in the very feasible category with a percentage of 87.89% from 2 media experts, the very feasible category with a percentage of 95.55 % from 2 language experts, and the category is very feasible with a percentage of 90% from 2 material experts. The students' response to the komaca media (reading proficient box) in the trial with 17 respondents was 91.7%, which was included in the very good category.
