Abstract

Arabic is a core subject in Islamic education institutions in Indonesia, especially in Islamic boarding schools. Within the pesantren environment, Arabic is considered the key to daily communication, given its relevance to Islamic teachings and sources of Islamic knowledge that use Arabic. Arabic education in pesantren not only focuses on reading and memorization skills but also on listening and speaking skills. This research evaluates the implementation of the Sam'iyah Syafawiyah (audiolingual) method in Arabic language learning at Pondok Pesantren Bidayatul Hidayah Rokan. This method emphasizes listening and speaking skills at the beginning of learning, followed by four other skills. In the pesantren context, this method is effective in accelerating students' Arabic language proficiency. The implementation steps of this method include presenting vocabulary, imitation, sentence pattern formation, dialogue practice, and improvisation. Although this method has advantages, such as accelerating listening and speaking skills, there are also drawbacks such as the potential for boredom and teacher dominance in the classroom. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study at Pondok Pesantren Bidayatul Hidayah Rokan. Data are obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation. The implementation of this method involves asatidz/asatidzah as guides in the learning process. The Sam'iyah Syafawiyah method is considered effective in improving students' Arabic language proficiency in the pesantren environment. However, a combination of other methods is needed for holistic Arabic language learning. In conclusion, this approach contributes positively to understanding and mastering Arabic in the pesantren education environment.
