Abstract

Creative and meaningful learning is often realized through a culture-based approach, which is highly relevant to students' daily lives and has great appeal. In the 2016 and 2013 curricula, enhancing students' cultural abilities and student-centered learning approaches are main focuses. However, modernization has eroded the nation's noble cultural values due to the lack of application and understanding of the importance of cultural values in society. Cultural values must be instilled early through family, education, and community environments. Education and culture are two inseparable aspects of daily life, and one way to bridge them is through ethnomathematics. Cultural conflicts often hinder mathematics learning, necessitating culturally appropriate mathematics instruction. Research shows that culturally-based mathematics significantly contributes to school mathematics education. Based on ethnomathematics research in Sidoarjo by Inda Rachmawati (2022), this study proposes the development of a congklak-based ethnomathematics learning media for multiplication material.
