Abstract

Character education is now one of the global topics that continues to receive attention in various countries, including Indonesia. Amidst the rapid flow of modernization and globalization, the challenges in shaping the character of the younger generation are increasingly complex. The development of technology, consumer culture, and the decline in moral values are some of the factors causing the character crisis in society. Character education is one of the important aspects in building individuals with integrity and morals. Ibn Miskawih, a Muslim philosopher from the 11th century, made a major contribution to the thinking of character education through his work Tahdzib al-Akhlaq. This article aims to examine Ibn Miskawih's views on character education. This study uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method. The results of the study show that character education according to Ibn Miskawih emphasizes the formation of good character through four stages, namely naturally, good habits, training, and light punishment. According to Ibn Miskawaih, there are four main characters that need to be developed in a person, namely al-Iffah (self-control), al-Syaja'ah (courage), al-Hikmah (wisdom), and al-Adalah (justice).
