Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) model assisted by concrete media on the mathematics learning outcomes of second-grade students at SD Negeri 89 Palembang. The background of the study is based on the low achievement in mathematics due to the continued use of conventional teaching methods and the lack of learning media that align with the cognitive development stage of elementary students. This research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a posttest-only control group design. The sample consisted of two classes, an experimental class and a control class, totaling 27 students. The research instrument was a multiple-choice test that had been tested for validity and reliability. The results showed that the average score of students in the experimental class was higher than that of the control class. Data analysis using an independent sample t-test indicated a significance value of 0.032, meaning that there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups. These findings suggest that the RME model assisted by concrete media significantly improves students' mathematics learning outcomes. This model not only increases student engagement and motivation but also helps students better understand mathematical concepts through real-life and contextual experiences. Therefore, the RME model with the support of concrete media is recommended as an effective alternative strategy for enhancing mathematics instruction in elementary schools.
