Abstract

  1. This study aims to determine the effect of utilizing ChatGPT on information
retrieval among students of the Library and Information Science Study Program at
Universitas Negeri Padang. As a form of artificial intelligence (AI), ChatGPT is
expected to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency, and accuracy of academic
information searching processes. This research employs a quantitative approach
with a descriptive method. The population consisted of 91 students, and a sample
of 75 respondents was selected using the Slovin formula. The research instrument
was a Likert-scale questionnaire based on indicators from the Technology
Acceptance Model (TAM) by Fred Davis and the Information Retrieval Model by
David Ellis. The results indicate that the utilization of ChatGPT in information
retrieval falls into the beneficial category, with an overall mean score of 3.18. The
highest score was found in the ease of use indicator (3.40), followed by usefulness
(3.20), attitude toward use (3.25), and perceived usefulness (3.12). Meanwhile,
among the information retrieval indicators, verifying obtained the highest average
score (3.52), while end scored the lowest (2.49). These findings demonstrate that
ChatGPT assists students in identifying, verifying, and organizing academic
information effectively, although sufficient information literacy skills are still
required to ensure the accuracy of retrieved information. Overall, the utilization of
ChatGPT has a positive influence on improving students’ information retrieval
abilities and can serve as a supportive digital learning tool within academic
    environments.
