ABSTRACT
This study aims to develop tolerance attitudes and language skills among elementary school students through the use of folktales as contextual and meaningful learning resources. The research is grounded in the need for instructional practices that integrate character education with language competence development in ways that are culturally relevant to students. A mixed methods sequential explanatory design was employed combining quantitative data to measure improvements in tolerance and language abilities and qualitative data to clarify findings through exploration of students learning experiences when engaging with folktales. The results indicate an increase in students comprehension storytelling ability and interpretation of texts as well as the development of tolerant behaviors including cooperation appreciation of differences and empathy building. Folktales provided a learning environment closely related to students cultural backgrounds and served as a medium for internalizing cultural values that enrich classroom social interactions. This study confirms that integrating folktales into language learning is an effective strategy for enhancing language skills while fostering tolerance among elementary school students.
