This study aims to analyze the implementation of digital learning in the Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) program at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Washington DC during the Fall 2025 semester. Specifically, this research seeks to: (1) identify the challenges and opportunities faced by BIPA instructors and learners in digital learning, (2) analyze language use in digital BIPA instruction, including the medium of instruction, level of formality, code-switching, code-mixing, and the appropriateness of language use in relation to learners’ proficiency levels, and (3) describe the instructional strategies employed by teachers to optimize digital learning in the BIPA program. This study adopts a qualitative research design to explore processes, phenomena, and meanings within a natural context through a descriptive approach, ensuring an objective portrayal of findings. The analytical framework utilizes the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model and content analysis. The data comprise linguistic and language-use data. Primary data include verbal utterances produced orally by instructors in recorded Zoom sessions. Observational data were obtained from two beginner-level classes. Additional data were collected via interviews and Google Form surveys. Collection techniques included observation, note-taking, interviews, and respondent surveys. Data analysis was conducted interactively through data collection, reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate several challenges: time zone differences between Indonesia and the United States, high absenteeism due to weekend commitments, limited effectiveness of Zoom in facilitating comprehension, language barriers since beginners lacked prior knowledge of Indonesian, and excessively large class sizes.
