EKSISTENSI TRADISI BAJU LURIK KAMIS PON PADA ERA MODERNISASI DI SD NEGERI KOTAGEDE 1

Abstract

This study aims to describe the existence of the Kamis Pon lurik clothing tradition, the supporting and inhibiting factors, and the role of schools in preserving local culture in the era of modernization at SD Negeri Kotagede 1 Yogyakarta. This research used a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation and semi-structured interviews involving the principal, teachers, and students. The results showed that the Kamis Pon lurik tradition is still routinely implemented as part of a school culture program based on local wisdom. The use of lurik clothing not only functions as a cultural symbol, but also as a medium for character education and cultural literacy for students. The school plays an active role in preserving Javanese culture through habituation activities, integrating cultural values into learning, and involving all school members in cultural activities. The supporting factors include support from the school community and the existence of local cultural values that are still maintained. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors are the influence of modernization, students' interest in popular culture, and the limitations of clothing models that sometimes hinder students' movement. Therefore, strengthening local culture through school culture activities is considered important to maintain the existence of regional culture amid the rapid development of modernization.
