This article examines compositional forms or compound words in Indonesian and Sasak through a comparative approach. This study aims to identify various compositional patterns found in both languages, then compare the similarities, differences, and unique characteristics found only in one language. Indonesian data were obtained from various morphological and dictionary studies, while Sasak data were collected through dialectological research, linguistic documentation, and studies of Sasak oral literature. The results show that Indonesian and Sasak share a number of compositional patterns, such as N+N (noun + noun), N+V (noun + verb), V+N (verb + noun), and A+N (adjective + noun). These patterns are productive forms in both languages. However, there are several notable differences. Sasak has a compositional pattern involving partial reduplication and the use of certain numerals that are not found in Indonesian. In contrast, Indonesian exhibits a hybrid compositional pattern that combines loanwords and native elements, a form that is relatively rare in Sasak. These differences are influenced by a number of factors, including language typology, the level of interaction with other languages, and the sociolinguistic conditions underlying the development of each language.
