KEMAMPUAN MENULIS KALIMAT SEDERHANA SISWA KELAS II SDN 2 MANDINGIN KABUPATEN HULU SUNGAI TENGAH

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the ability of second-grade students at SDN 2 Mandingin, Hulu Sungai Tengah Regency, to write simple sentences and to identify factors affecting their writing ability. The study employed a descriptive approach with quantitative and qualitative data. The subjects were nine second-grade students and one classroom teacher. Data were collected through writing tests, interviews, and documentation. The analysis focused on indicators including subject-predicate appropriateness, capitalization and punctuation, diction, sentence content, handwriting neatness, and spacing. The results showed that students’ simple sentence writing ability was in the fairly good category, with an overall percentage score of 64%. The highest score was found in subject-predicate appropriateness (72%), while the lowest score was found in spacing (53%). Factors affecting students’ writing ability included external factors such as less varied teaching methods, limited use of learning media, insufficient family support, and limited use of local context in learning. Internal factors included low interest in writing and low motivation to develop ideas in written form. These findings indicate the need for more engaging learning strategies, appropriate instructional media, and stronger support from both school and family to improve students’ writing ability.
