TikTok, as a social media platform based on short-form photo and video content, enables users to be continuously exposed to various contents that present beauty standards and ideal body images. Such exposure may encourage individuals to engage in physical appearance comparison, defined as the tendency to compare one’s own physical appearance with others, which may subsequently increase body dissatisfaction. This study aims to examine the relationship between physical appearance comparison and body dissatisfaction among emerging adult women who are TikTok users in Jakarta. This research employed a quantitative correlational approach involving 205 female emerging adult participants aged 18-25 years residing in Jakarta, selected using a non-probability sampling technique with a purposive sampling method. Data were collected using the Physical Appearance Comparison Scale-Revised (PACS-R) and the Body Dissatisfaction Scale (BDS) and analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 29 through the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results showed a positive and significant relationship between physical appearance comparison and body dissatisfaction (ρ = 0.599; p < 0.001), indicating a strong correlation between the two variables, such that higher levels of physical appearance comparison are associated with higher levels of body dissatisfaction, while lower levels of comparison are associated with lower body dissatisfaction.
